How do I get to the Twin Lakes from Dumaguete?
Short answer
The Balinsasayao Twin Lakes are about 25 km from Dumaguete via Sibulan and San Jose. The last stretch is sealed but climbs steeply through blind curves, so the trip usually takes an hour to an hour and a half. There is no regular public transport to the gate.
A private vehicle handles the climb comfortably and waits while you walk the viewpoint and paddle the lake. By public transport you would bus to San Jose and hire a habal-habal up the climb.

What time does the park gate open, and when should we leave Dumaguete?
The gate is open 8am to 5pm daily, so the climb is what you time backwards from it: an hour to an hour and a half up means a pickup around 6:30 in the morning to be through the gate as it opens, which is the version of this trip with the water at its stillest. There is no earlier version - arriving before 8 buys you a closed barrier on a road with nowhere to wait. Later is fine and much more common; it is the afternoon that gets thin, with visitors commonly reported to be turned back from around 3 so the trails are clear by dusk. That last point comes from a single source rather than several, so we treat it as a reason to go up in the morning rather than a rule.
Is there public transport to the lakes?
