Sipalay beaches & diving
Sipalay is the Negros we hope never changes: powder-soft Sugar Beach, the resort cove of Punta Ballo, clear water over healthy reef, and barely a crowd in sight on the island’s quiet south-west coast.
It sits roughly midway down the west coast, about 172 km from Dumaguete and a similar distance from Bacolod - so however you come, it is a long but genuinely scenic coastal drive past sugarcane, fishing villages and flashes of sea.
From Dumaguete the run is around 3.5 to 4.5 hours; from Bacolod it is roughly 2.5 to 4 hours by car, longer by public bus or van. Sugar Beach itself is reached by a short boat or a back-road approach, which a driver who knows the area handles smoothly.
It is a big drive best broken with a stop or two, and that is exactly what a private car is for: pause where the view is good, stretch your legs, and arrive at the beach actually relaxed.

- Ceres bus (public)~4-6 hrs
Ceres buses run down the coast from both Dumaguete and Bacolod to Sipalay, then a tricycle or boat to the beach. Cheapest, but a long ride with transfers.
- Shared van (public)~4-5 hrs
V-hire vans run the coastal route with fewer stops than the bus, but fixed seats and limited luggage.
