How do I get from Sipalay to Dumaguete airport, and what time do I have to leave for my flight?
Short answer
Sipalay to Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) is about 180 km and usually 4 to 5 hours by private car. It is the same coast road as our Sipalay to Dumaguete page, round the southern tip of Negros at Siaton, with one extra stretch on the end: the airport is not in Dumaguete but about 7 km north of the city at Sibulan, so the car goes through the city and out the other side before it reaches the terminal.
The time goes where people do not expect it. The west coast and the run through Bayawan move well, but the last 50 km through Zamboanguita, Dauin and Bacong is a line of strip towns, and after that comes Dumaguete itself. The road slows down as the flight gets closer, not the other way round, which is why this page does the leave-time arithmetic instead of leaving you to subtract it from a distance.
The short version: be moving about seven hours before departure. A 2 in the afternoon flight means the car leaves Sipalay around 7 in the morning, and a flight before about 10 in the morning cannot be done from Sipalay the same day at any sensible hour. The FAQs below show both, plus what changes if you are on Sugar Beach, and when a night in Dauin or Dumaguete first is the better booking.
Step by step: Sipalay (Sugar Beach) to Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT)
- 1Send us the flight, not a pickup time
Give us the flight number, the departure time and the resort name. We work the pickup back from the airport and tell you plainly whether the same-day run is comfortable, tight, or better done with a night on the east coast first.
- 2Off the beach first, if you are on Sugar Beach
No road reaches Sugar Beach, so a short boat over to the Barangay Nauhang side happens before the highway does, with luggage. Book it with your resort the night before rather than looking for a boatman on the morning. From Punta Ballo or Sipalay town the car comes to the door and this step does not apply.
- 3South down the coast to Bayawan
Through Hinoba-an and across into Negros Oriental at Basay. Bayawan is about 76 km from Sipalay, a little under halfway, and the practical place for a food or fuel stop if the flight time allows one.
- 4Round Siaton and up through the strip towns
The road turns north at Siaton and the last 50 km towards Dumaguete run through Zamboanguita, Dauin and Bacong one after another. This is the slow section, slower per kilometre than anything before it.
- 5Through Dumaguete and north to Sibulan
The airport sits about 7 km north of the city, so the route crosses Dumaguete before the last short run out to the terminal. DGT is a small single-terminal airport, so it is a short walk from the car to check-in.

Ways to travel, compared
- Sipalay to DGT transfer (what we arrange)~4-5 hrs
A private air-conditioned car or van from Sipalay to Dumaguete-Sibulan departures, timed to your flight rather than to a fixed hour, meeting you at the Nauhang landing if you are on Sugar Beach or at the door if you are not, with a stop at Bayawan if the flight allows. Fixed price whatever time you leave, request a quote.
- Ceres bus to Dumaguete, then out to the airport (public)~5-6 hrs to the city
Ceres buses run this coast to the Dumaguete terminal, which is the city, not the airport. Fine on a day you are not flying. With bags and a check-in cut-off it leaves you finding a ride north through town at the end of a five to six hour trip.
- Shared V-hire van, then out to the airport (public)~4-5 hrs to the city
V-hire vans run the coastal route with fewer stops than the bus, but fixed seats, limited luggage and the same last leg to arrange yourself: they arrive in Dumaguete, not at the terminal.
Sipalay (Sugar Beach) to Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT): FAQs
What time do I need to leave Sipalay for a flight out of Dumaguete?
About seven hours before the departure time. Work back from the airport, not from the road: Cebu Pacific asks passengers to be at the airport two hours ahead, and check-in closes 45 minutes before departure at both carriers serving DGT. The drive is about 180 km and usually 4 to 5 hours, and we plan to the long end because the slow part is the last hour. So a 2 in the afternoon flight wants the car leaving Sipalay around 7 in the morning, and a 5 in the afternoon flight around 10. If you are on Sugar Beach, the boat off the beach comes before that, so count from when the boat leaves rather than from the car. Send us the flight number and the resort and we set the time rather than guessing at it.
I have a morning flight out of Dumaguete. Can I do it from Sipalay the same day?
Not sensibly, and we would rather say so than quote it. Seven hours back from a 9 in the morning departure is a 2 in the morning start on a coast road, after checking out in the dark, and from Sugar Beach a small boat off an unlit beach at that hour first. The shape that works is driving round the day before and sleeping on the east coast. Dauin is 30 to 40 minutes from the terminal and Dumaguete city is 10 to 15 minutes, 20 to 25 in traffic, so the flight morning becomes a short run instead of the whole island. We can quote the Sipalay to hotel leg and the hotel to airport leg as one booking.
How far is Dumaguete airport from Sipalay?
About 180 km by road, usually 4 to 5 hours by private car. The figure you will see more often is 172 km and 3.5 to 4.5 hours, which is Sipalay to Dumaguete city, including on our own route page. The airport is about 7 km north of the city at Sibulan, so it sits past Dumaguete rather than before it, and the extra stretch goes through the city to get there. On a flight day that difference is most of the margin.
Should we fly out of Bacolod-Silay instead?
Look at the tickets first, because on the road the two are close. Bacolod-Silay Airport is about 190 km and 3 to 4.5 hours up the west coast, Dumaguete-Sibulan about 180 km and 4 to 5 hours round the south. Bacolod-Silay has the wider domestic schedule. Dumaguete makes sense when the fare or the flight time suits you better, or when you want a last night at Dauin before flying, since it is on this road about 30 to 40 minutes short of the terminal. Send us both options with your dates and we will quote each.
We are staying on Sugar Beach. Does the car come to the resort?
It cannot, and it is worth settling before the morning you leave. There is no road to Sugar Beach, so a departure from that beach always starts with a short boat, usually about 10 to 20 minutes, over to the Barangay Nauhang side where the car waits with the bags. Your resort arranges the boat and it is worth booking it the night before. We meet you at the landing. From Punta Ballo or Sipalay town the car reaches you directly, so tell us the resort name when you request the quote.
Can we stop for lunch on the way to the airport?
If the flight is late enough, yes. Bayawan is about 76 km from Sipalay, a little under halfway, and the largest town on the corridor, with a population of around 126,000 at the 2024 census, so food and fuel are easy there. Add the stop to the seven-hour rule rather than taking it out of the margin: an hour at Bayawan before a 5 in the afternoon flight means leaving Sipalay around 9 instead of 10. Tell us how long a stop you want and it is quoted as one fixed transfer. Put it in the "Stops along the way" field on the quote form and it is in the plan from the start.
We have been diving. How soon can we fly?
The Divers Alert Network guidance is a minimum 12-hour surface interval after a single no-decompression dive, and at least 18 hours after multiple dives in a day or several days of diving. With a four to five hour drive in front of the flight, the easy way to meet it is to keep the last day before you leave dry. That is a rule about the dive schedule, not the transfer, but it is the most common reason a departure day has to move, so check it before you book the car.
How do we tell you how much dive gear is coming?
Yes - say how many sets of dive gear are coming in the "Anything bulky?" box, with the bag count, and we size the vehicle to that. This is the longest departure we run off this coast, about 180 km and 4 to 5 hours, and the slow part of it is the last 50 km through the strip towns rather than the open coast, so a wrong-sized car cannot be recovered by driving harder later. Add the Sugar Beach boat over to Nauhang in front of that if your resort is on the beach, with the kit going across first. Gear rented at Punta Ballo and left there is the easier version of this day, so tell us if that is your plan and the car gets smaller rather than larger.
Can you do the return trip, Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) back to Sipalay (Sugar Beach)?
Yes. The same private car and driver, Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) back to Sipalay (Sugar Beach) over the same ~180 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.
How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?
Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.
Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?
Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.
