Short answer

Dauin is about 18 km south of Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) and the run back up takes 30 to 40 minutes. The distance is the easy part. What catches people out is that the road goes north through Bacong and then straight through the middle of Dumaguete before turning out to Sibulan, so a mid-morning departure can sit in city traffic in a way a pre-dawn one never does. Counter-intuitively, the early flight is the simpler drive.

The other half of the problem is that resort checkout and flight times almost never line up, and on this coast there is usually a dive schedule between them. Book the car to the flight and you can leave the gate at four in the morning without standing on the coast road hoping a tricycle comes past, or leave in the afternoon and put the waiting hours somewhere better than the terminal.

One thing worth settling before you book anything: if you have been diving, your last dive has to be far enough back from the flight. That is a rule about the dive schedule, not the transfer, and it is the single most common reason a Dauin departure has to move. The FAQ below has the numbers.

Step by step: Dauin to Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT)

  1. 1
Send us your flight and your resort

Flight number, departure time and the resort name. The dive resorts run for several kilometres along the coast road with unmarked beach lanes, so the gate matters as much as the town does.

  2. 2
    Pickup at your resort gate

Your driver collects you and the gear at the resort itself, not the highway junction, at the time we work back from the counter closing.

  3. 3
    North up the coast road

Out through Dauin and Bacong to the edge of Dumaguete, about 20 minutes on a quiet road.

  4. 4
Through Dumaguete and out to Sibulan

This is the variable section. The route crosses the city before turning north for the last 7 km to the airport, and it is slow in the daytime and empty before dawn.

  5. 5
    Dropped at departures

DGT is a small single-terminal airport, so it is a short walk from the car to the check-in counter with the dive bags.

Ways to travel, compared

  • Airport transfer (what we arrange)~30-40 min

A private air-conditioned car from your resort gate to DGT departures with room for dive kit, timed to your flight however early it is. Fixed, all-in price for the car, request a quote.

  • Ceres bus + tricycle (public)~1-1.5 hrs

Tricycle out to the highway, a northbound Ceres bus into Dumaguete terminal, then a second tricycle up to Sibulan. Cheapest, but three legs with luggage and nothing runs to a timetable you would want to trust a flight to.

  • Tricycle direct (local)~45-60 min

Some tricycles will run the whole way. Workable with a light bag in daylight, uncomfortable with dive kit and hard to arrange for a four in the morning departure.

Dauin to Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT): FAQs

What time should I leave Dauin for my flight?

Work back from the counter, not the road. Domestic check-in closes 45 minutes before departure at both airlines serving DGT, and Cebu Pacific asks passengers to be at the airport two hours before the flight. The drive is 30 to 40 minutes and longer through Dumaguete in the daytime, so for a 7 o’clock departure a pickup around 4 from your resort gate gets you there comfortably. Tell us the flight number and we set the time for you.

I have been diving at Dauin or Apo Island. How long before I can fly?

The Divers Alert Network guidance is a minimum 12-hour surface interval after a single no-decompression dive, and at least 18 hours after multiple dives in a day or several days of diving. On this coast almost nobody does a single dive, so 18 hours is the number that matters: your last dive day has to finish the day before you fly. Plan the final day dry and we time the airport run around it.

My checkout is at midday and my flight is in the evening. What do I do with the gap?

That is the usual shape of a Dauin departure and it is worth planning rather than absorbing at the terminal. The car can hold your luggage while you spend the afternoon somewhere, and Valencia, the Twin Lakes or the Dumaguete seafront are all on or near the way north. Tell us the flight and how long the gap is and we quote the run with the stop in it, as one fixed transfer.

Can you pick up from a specific dive resort?

Yes, and please name it. The resorts are spread along several kilometres of the coast road and the lanes down to the beach are mostly unmarked, so a driver sent to "Dauin" is not much use at four in the morning. Give us the resort name with the quote request and the pickup is at its gate.

Is there room for dive gear and luggage?

Yes. Tell us how many divers and how many bags when you request a quote and we send a vehicle that fits the lot, rather than turning up with a car that is too small for the kit.

Is Dumaguete airport the same place as Sibulan pier?

No, and people mix them up in both directions. Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) and Sibulan port, where the fast craft to Liloan in Cebu leaves, are both in Sibulan and only minutes apart, but they are different places. If you are flying, you want the airport; if you are crossing to Cebu by sea, you want the pier. Say which one and your driver goes to the right gate.

What if my flight is cancelled or moved?

Domestic schedules out of DGT do change. Let us know as soon as you do and we move the pickup to the new time. Same driver, same fixed price, just run earlier or later.

Can you do the return trip, Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) back to Dauin?

Yes. The same private car and driver, Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) back to Dauin over the same ~18 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together.
