Can I see Casaroro Falls on the day I fly out of Dumaguete, and what time do I have to leave Valencia?
Short answer
Valencia is about 15 km from Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT), 30 to 40 minutes by private car: back down out of the uplands, through Dumaguete and north to the terminal at Sibulan. The drive is short. The part that decides the day is the falls, because the Casaroro walk is roughly 335 steps down into the gorge and 20 to 30 minutes each way along the river, an hour and a half to two hours from leaving the car to getting back to it.
That makes Valencia the obvious thing to do with the gap between a midday checkout and an afternoon flight. You check out, the bags go in the car, the driver waits at the trailhead with them while you walk the gorge, and then drives you straight to departures. No left-luggage, no second ride, and no hours sitting in a small terminal.
The short version: back at the car about three hours before departure, which puts you at the trailhead about five hours before it. A 4 in the afternoon flight means starting the walk around 11. The FAQs below do the same arithmetic for other flight times, say plainly when a morning flight rules it out, and cover the shorter stops if nobody wants the 335 steps.
Step by step: Valencia (Casaroro Falls) to Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT)
- 1Send us the flight and where you are staying
Flight number, departure time, your hotel or resort, and whether you want the full Casaroro walk or only the roadside stops. We work the pickup back from the airport and tell you straight away if the flight time does not leave room.
- 2Check out and load the car
Your driver collects you and all the luggage at your hotel. Valencia town is 20 to 30 minutes west of Dumaguete, and the Casaroro trailhead is a little further on a narrow road.
- 3Walk the gorge while the driver waits
Roughly 335 steps down and 20 to 30 minutes each way along the river over boulders. Allow an hour and a half to two hours. The bags stay in the car with your driver, and there is a small restaurant at the trailhead for anyone sitting it out.
- 4Down through Dumaguete and north to Sibulan
About 15 km and 30 to 40 minutes back to the coast, through the city and out to the airport, which sits about 7 km north of Dumaguete.
- 5Dropped at departures
DGT is a small single-terminal airport, so it is a short walk from the car to check-in.

Ways to travel, compared
- Casaroro stop + airport transfer (what we arrange)~30-40 min drive + your time at the falls
One private air-conditioned car from your hotel to Valencia and on to DGT departures, with the driver and your luggage waiting at the trailhead. Timed back from your flight, fixed all-in price, request a quote.
- Jeepney + habal-habal, then back for the bags (public)~1 hr+ each way
Jeepney from Dumaguete to Valencia town and a habal-habal up towards the trailhead, then the same in reverse to collect your luggage before a separate ride to the airport. Workable on a day you are not flying; with bags and a check-in cut-off it is several changes too many.
Valencia (Casaroro Falls) to Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT): FAQs
What time do I need to leave Casaroro Falls for my flight?
Be back at the car about three hours before the departure time. Work back from the airport: Cebu Pacific asks passengers to be at the airport two hours ahead, and check-in closes 45 minutes before a domestic departure at both carriers serving DGT. The drive down from Valencia is about 15 km and 30 to 40 minutes, and it goes through Dumaguete, which is slower in the daytime. The walk itself is an hour and a half to two hours, so start it about five hours before the flight. For a 4 in the afternoon departure that is the trailhead around 11 and back at the car by 1. Send us the flight number and we set the pickup rather than leaving you to guess.
My flight is in the morning. Can I still fit the falls in?
Not on the flight day, and we would rather say so than sell it. Five hours back from a 10 in the morning departure is a 5 in the morning start down a slippery stairway and a river walk over boulders. Do Casaroro on an earlier day instead, and book the flight morning as the short run from your hotel: Dumaguete city is 10 to 15 minutes from the terminal, 20 to 25 in traffic, and Dauin 30 to 40 minutes.
Where do our bags go while we walk down to the falls?
They stay in the car with your driver at the trailhead. That is the point of booking it as one transfer: you check out, load everything once, and the same car takes you from the falls to departures. Keep a dry top and a change of shoes in a day bag, since the spray at the base of the falls soaks people and you will not want to open the checked luggage in the car park.
Not everyone wants the 335 steps. Is there a shorter stop?
Yes. Pulangbato, the Red Rock hot spring and Forest Camp are all close to the road, so anyone who cannot manage steep stairs and uneven rock can still have the upland morning without the gorge. Those stops take less time than the Casaroro walk, which gives a later start or a bigger margin before the flight. Tell us which stops and how long you want at each, and we time the pickup from that.
The arithmetic puts us at the trailhead around midday. Is that a good time to walk it?
It is the compromise this day asks for, and it is better known in advance. Working back from an afternoon flight puts the trailhead start near the middle of the day, which is the hottest stretch for the climb out and the point at which there is least direct light in the gorge. Nothing stops you, and people do it. But if the falls are the part of the trip you care about, they are better on their own morning earlier in the stay, with the flight day kept for the roadside stops at Pulangbato and the Red Rock spring. There is no published closing time to run out of here, so the risk is not a barrier coming down on you, it is a hot climb out and flat light at the bottom. Tell us the flight and what matters most and we will time the day around that rather than around the falls by default.
What if it has been raining heavily?
Then skip the gorge. The river walk to Casaroro is not a maintained path, and after heavy rain the river runs high and the rocks are slippery. On a flight day that is a risk to the day, not only to your footing. Your driver can take you to the roadside stops instead, or straight to the airport, for the same booking. Let us know on the morning and we adjust.
How far is Dumaguete airport from Valencia?
About 15 km, 30 to 40 minutes by private car. Valencia town is about 10 km west of Dumaguete, and the airport is about 7 km north of the city at Sibulan, so the drive comes down out of the uplands and through Dumaguete before the last short run to the terminal.
Is Dumaguete airport the same place as Sibulan pier?
No. Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) and Sibulan port, where the fast craft to Liloan in Cebu leaves, are both in Sibulan and only minutes apart, but they are different places. If you are flying, you want the airport; if you are crossing to Cebu by sea, you want the pier. Say which one and your driver goes to the right gate.
Can you do the return trip, Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) back to Valencia (Casaroro Falls)?
Yes. The same private car and driver, Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport (DGT) back to Valencia (Casaroro Falls) over the same ~15 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.
How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?
Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.
Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?
Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.
