What time should we start if we want Casaroro?
As early as you are willing to leave. The gorge is narrow and takes little direct sun, so it looks its best before the light is overhead, and the roughly 335 steps back up to the car are the hard half of the walk, a great deal harder in the heat that collects in the ravine by the afternoon. There are no published opening or closing hours for the falls, from the municipality or anyone else, so arriving early is also how you make sure somebody is at the trailhead to take the environmental fee and send a guide down with you, and how you keep time in hand if the staff there call it off after heavy rain. The usual shape is a first-thing pickup in Dumaguete, Casaroro before the sun is high, then Pulangbato, the Red Rock spring and lunch at Forest Camp in the afternoon, all of which are close to the road and untroubled by the heat.
How hard is the Casaroro Falls walk?
It is the demanding part of the day, so plan for it. Roughly 335 concrete steps down into the gorge, then 20 to 30 minutes each way upstream over boulders, crossing the river where you have to - that stretch is not a maintained path and is navigated by red arrows painted on the rocks. Allow an hour and a half to two hours, wear shoes you can get wet, and expect it to be off after heavy rain. It does not suit anyone who cannot manage steep stairs and uneven rock. If you would rather skip it, say so when you book and the tour still works well around Pulangbato, the Red Rock spring and Forest Camp, which are all close to the road.

Can this tour finish at Dumaguete airport on the day we fly out?
Yes, and it is one of the better uses of a departure day. You check out, all the luggage goes in the car once, the driver waits at the Casaroro trailhead with it while you walk the gorge, and then drives you to departures. Be back at the car about three hours before the departure time on your ticket: Cebu Pacific asks passengers to be at the airport two hours ahead, check-in closes 45 minutes before a domestic departure at both carriers serving DGT, and the drive down is about 15 km and 30 to 40 minutes through Dumaguete, which is slower in the daytime. Since the Casaroro walk runs an hour and a half to two hours, start it about five hours before the flight. Worked through: a 2 in the afternoon departure is a trailhead start around 9 and back at the car by 11; a 4 in the afternoon is 11 and 1; a 6 in the evening is 1 and 3. Our flight is in the morning. Can we still do the falls that day?
Not the Casaroro walk, and we would rather tell you than sell it. Five hours back from a 10 in the morning departure is a 5 in the morning start down a wet stairway and a river walk over boulders in the half dark. Do Casaroro on an earlier day and keep the flight morning as the short run from your hotel, which is 10 to 15 minutes from Dumaguete city, 20 to 25 in traffic. The roadside stops are a different answer: Pulangbato, the Red Rock spring and Forest Camp are all beside the road, so a short upland loop can work ahead of a late-morning or midday flight where the gorge cannot.
Which stops survive a tight afternoon before a flight?
The ones you do not have to walk down to. Casaroro is the only stop on this tour with a fixed time cost you cannot compress, because the gorge is roughly 335 steps down plus 20 to 30 minutes each way along the river whatever your pace.
