How do I get to Bais from Dumaguete for dolphin watching?
Short answer
Bais City is about 45 km north of Dumaguete, an hour to an hour and a half by road. Dolphin-watching boats leave from the Bais wharf in the morning to cruise the Tañon Strait, then usually continue to the Manjuyod sandbar - a tidal bank, widest and driest around low water and largely submerged at high water, so the date matters more than the booking.
A private car timed to an early boat is the easy way to do it, since the best sightings and calmest water are soon after sunrise. Northbound Ceres buses reach Bais too, then a tricycle to the wharf.

No, the dolphins are wild, so sightings are common but not guaranteed. Going early gives the best chance, and the Manjuyod sandbar makes the trip worthwhile regardless.
Does the tide matter for the Manjuyod sandbar?
It decides how much of it there is. Manjuyod is a tidal sandbar: dry, wide sand around low water, and mostly under the sea at high water, with the last of it covering quickly once the tide turns. The low tide falls at a different hour on every date, so this is a question about which day you come rather than what time we collect you. Pick a date with a low tide in the morning if walking on the sand matters to you, and check a tide table for Bais before you fix it. The dolphins are unaffected either way, and we can time the transfer to whichever boat your date wants.
