Short answer

Dumaguete is about 45 km south of Bais down the coast road, an hour to an hour and a half by car depending on traffic. It is the same road as the drive up.

Our Dumaguete to Bais day trip already includes the drive back, so this page is for everyone else: visitors who stayed a night in Bais to be first at the wharf, people who came up by Ceres bus and want an easier ride home with wet bags, and anyone heading on from Bais to a Dumaguete hotel, the Siquijor or Cebu ferry, or the dive coast at Dauin. A private car collects you at your Bais hotel or straight off the boat at the wharf and drops you at the door.

Step by step: Bais to Dumaguete

  1. 1
    Collected in Bais

From your hotel, or at the Bais wharf when the dolphin and sandbar boat comes back. Tell us which, and roughly when.

  2. 2
    South down the coast

About 45 km and an hour to an hour and a half, past the airport at Sibulan and into Dumaguete.

  3. 3
Dropped where you are going next

Door to door to your Dumaguete hotel, the ferry pier, or on to a Dauin resort. Send the address with your quote request.

Ways to travel, compared

  • Private transfer (what we arrange)~1-1.5 hrs

Door to door from your Bais hotel or the wharf to your Dumaguete drop-off, with room for luggage and wet gear. Fixed, all-in price for the car, request a quote.

  • Tricycle + Ceres bus (public)~1.5-2 hrs

A tricycle from the wharf or your hotel to the highway, a southbound Ceres bus to the Dumaguete terminal, then a tricycle to your hotel. Cheapest, but three legs with bags.

Bais to Dumaguete: FAQs

How long does it take to get from Bais to Dumaguete?

About an hour to an hour and a half for the roughly 45 km south down the coast road, depending on traffic.

Can we go dolphin watching on the morning we leave Bais?

Yes, and for most people it is the reason to stay over: you are at the wharf for the first boats without the dark drive up from the city. The trip usually carries on to the Manjuyod sandbar, which is a tidal bank, so whether there is dry sand to stand on depends on that morning's low water, not on the boat. Check a tide table for Bais for the date, then tell us roughly when you expect to be back at the wharf. Your bags stay in the car with the driver while you are on the water, and the drive south to Dumaguete starts when you land.

Do we pass the airport on the way?

Yes. Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport is about 7 km north of the city, so it sits on the road from Bais, about 40 km down. If you are flying out the same day, see the Bais to Dumaguete airport page instead: it works the wharf time back from your flight.

I am catching a boat or heading to Dauin next. Can you take us straight there?

Yes. Name the next stop with the quote request, whether that is the Dumaguete ferry pier for Siquijor or Cebu, or a resort on the Dauin coast south of the city, and the car goes straight there rather than stopping in town.

Can you do the return trip, Dumaguete back to Bais?

Yes. The same private car and driver, Dumaguete back to Bais over the same ~45 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.

How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?

Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.

Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?

Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.

Travelling the other way?

Dumaguete → Bais

We run this route in both directions, with the same car and driver. Ask for both legs in one request and we'll price the round trip together.

We'll pre-fill Dumaguete → Bais on the form. Just add your dates and details.

Coming back to somewhere else - a different town, the airport, a pier for an onward boat? Say where in the Anything else? box on the form and we price the return to that instead of back to the start.

Starting somewhere else?

We also run to Dumaguete from these starting points. Each page has its own timing and a quote form already filled in for that pickup.
