Short answer

Tampi Port sits in San Jose, on the coastal highway roughly 18 km north of Dumaguete. It is the Negros landing point of the Bato (Samboan) crossing from Cebu’s south-west coast, and the drive south into Dumaguete takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

There is no terminal transfer to arrange and no queue for a seat: your driver waits at the pier with your name, loads the bags and takes you straight to your hotel, or onward to Dauin, Valencia, the Twin Lakes or an Apo Island boat.

Step by step: Tampi Port (San Jose) to Dumaguete

  1. 1
    Cross from Bato to Tampi

Maayo Shipping runs the RORO crossing between Bato Port in Samboan, Cebu, and Tampi in about 30 minutes. Seven departures each way appear in every published schedule: 5:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM, 8:00 PM and 11:30 PM. Some schedules add more, so check the pier board before relying on an extra boat.

  2. 2
Meet your driver at the pier

Send us your sailing and we are waiting as you walk off, named sign, no haggling with the tricycles on the road outside.

  3. 3
    Drive south along the coast

The highway runs down through Amlan and Sibulan into Dumaguete, about 18 km and 30 to 45 minutes depending on the traffic through the towns.

  4. 4
    Hotel, or straight onward

We can drop you in central Dumaguete, or carry on the same day to Dauin, Valencia, the Twin Lakes or the Malatapay boats for Apo Island.

Ways to travel, compared

  • Private transfer from Tampi Port (what we arrange)~30-45 min

Met at the pier and driven to your Dumaguete address, or onward anywhere in Negros Oriental. Fixed price agreed before you travel, request a quote.

  • Ceres bus down the coast road~45-70 min

Southbound buses on the coastal highway pass Tampi and run into Dumaguete. Cheap and frequent in daylight, slower with luggage and it drops you at the terminal rather than your hotel.

  • Tricycle or multicab from the piervaries

Local rides wait outside the pier gate. Fine for a short hop up the coast, but 18 km with bags in the heat is not what they are built for.

About 18 km. The drive south along the coastal highway through Amlan and Sibulan takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic through the towns.

Should I cross at Tampi or at Sibulan?

It depends which side of Cebu you travelled down. Coming down the east coast through Oslob, cross Liloan to Sibulan, it lands you about 7 km from Dumaguete. Coming down the west coast through Moalboal, Liloan means backtracking, so cross Bato to Tampi and take the 18 km run south instead.
