Short answer

Bacolod and Dumaguete sit at opposite ends of Negros, so the trip between them is a long cross-island haul. The usual land route runs down the west side through Kabankalan, then inland over the mountains at Mabinay, roughly 195 to 215 km and about 6 hours by car or Ceres bus.

A private car makes the long day far more comfortable, with stops where you like and door-to-door service instead of terminal-to-terminal. Many travellers instead fly into whichever hub, Bacolod-Silay (BCD) or Dumaguete (DGT), is nearest their destination.

Step by step: Bacolod to Dumaguete

  1. 1
Head south down the west coast

The route runs south from Bacolod down the Negros Occidental coast towards Kabankalan.

  2. 2
    Turn inland at Mabinay

From Kabankalan the road climbs east into the mountains to Mabinay, the cave town in the middle of the island.

  3. 3
    Break the long drive

A private car lets you stop for a meal or a leg-stretch on the roughly 6-hour run.

  4. 4
    Arrive in Dumaguete

You are dropped at your Dumaguete hotel, ready for Rizal Boulevard, Apo Island or the Sibulan crossing to Cebu.
