How do I get from Bacolod to Dumaguete?
Short answer
Bacolod and Dumaguete sit at opposite ends of Negros, so the trip between them is a long cross-island haul. The usual land route runs down the west side through Kabankalan, then inland over the mountains at Mabinay, roughly 195 to 215 km and about 6 hours by private car.
By Ceres bus, that six hours only holds if you are on the Mabinay service. Ceres links the same two cities two other ways - via Bayawan round the south coast, and via San Carlos round the north - and both of those take about eight and a half hours for the same journey, sometimes at a higher fare. They also do not all leave from the same place in Bacolod: the Mabinay bus goes from the south (Ceres Southbound) terminal, the San Carlos one from the north terminal. Getting on the wrong one is not a slightly slower trip, it is most of a day.

It is the same road and the same roughly 6 hours, so a departure late in the evening reaches the other end in the small hours - put the exact pickup time in your quote request and we will confirm a driver before you plan around it, because a night crossing is not a normal daytime transfer for us either. Three things genuinely change after dark. The Mabinay hill section in the middle is unlit and winding, so it is slower and much harder on anyone prone to carsickness than the same bends in daylight. The halfway stop we would otherwise recommend stops being worth it: the Bulwang caves are the reason to break this drive and they want daylight coming through the roof openings, and their guides are arranged at the site rather than booked ahead, so at night you are stopping for a meal and a leg-stretch instead. And you arrive at an hour when very little is open at either end, so have your hotel expecting a late check-in rather than assuming you can sort it on arrival.
Is there a night Ceres bus from Bacolod to Dumaguete?
If you are thinking of doing it by Ceres rather than by car, treat the night departures as unconfirmed until you have asked at the terminal. Published sources disagree with each other about whether there is a late-evening service on the Mabinay road at all and about when the last one leaves, so we do not print times here - the same reason we do not print the fare. Ask at the Bacolod south (Ceres Southbound) or Dumaguete Calindagan Road terminal on the day, and do not build an onward connection on a departure you have only read about. Missing the last bus on this route leaves you in the middle of the island rather than in a city.

How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?
Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.
Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?
