Short answer

Bacolod is about 170 km north of Sipalay up the west coast, roughly 2.5 to 4 hours by private car depending on traffic and stops, and about 4 to 5 hours by Ceres bus or V-hire van. It is the same road as the drive down, taken the other way, with Kabankalan roughly halfway as the natural place to break it.

The day starts differently depending on the beach. Punta Ballo and the Sipalay town resorts are road to the door, so the car collects you there. Sugar Beach has no road at all, so leaving it starts with a short boat, commonly about 10 to 20 minutes, over to the Barangay Nauhang side where the car waits with room for the bags.

Tell us where in Bacolod you are going. A city hotel is door to door. BREDCO port, where the Iloilo fast craft sail from, is in the middle of the city beside the Reclamation Area, while the FastCat RORO uses Banago, north of the city, and the two are not a walk apart. Flying out the same day is a different page: Bacolod-Silay Airport is about 15 km past the city near Silay, so see Sipalay to Bacolod-Silay airport instead.

Step by step: Sipalay (Sugar Beach) to Bacolod

  1. 1
Off the beach first, if you are on Sugar Beach

No road reaches Sugar Beach, so a short boat over to the Barangay Nauhang side comes first, with luggage. Your resort arranges it; book it the night before. From Punta Ballo or Sipalay town the car comes to the door and this step does not apply.

  2. 2
    North up the west coast

Through Cauayan and up the coastal road towards Bacolod, roughly 170 km of it.

  3. 3
    Break the drive at Kabankalan

Kabankalan is roughly halfway and the practical place to stop for food, fuel and a proper break. Ask for it at quote stage and we build the stop into the timing.

  4. 4
Dropped where you are going next

Door to door to your Bacolod hotel, BREDCO port for the Iloilo fast craft, or Banago for the FastCat. Send the address, or the boat, with your quote request.

Ways to travel, compared

  • Private transfer (what we arrange)~2.5-4 hrs

A private car or van from your Sipalay resort, or the Nauhang landing if you are on Sugar Beach, straight to your Bacolod drop-off, with stops as you like. Fixed price, request a quote.

  • Ceres bus (public)~4-5 hrs

Ceres buses run up the coast from Sipalay to the Bacolod south terminal, then a taxi or tricycle across the city to your hotel or the port. Cheapest, but a long ride.

  • Shared van (public)~4 hrs

V-hire vans run the coastal route with fewer stops than the bus, but fixed seats, limited luggage, and they finish in the city rather than at your door.

Sipalay (Sugar Beach) to Bacolod: FAQs

How long is the drive from Sipalay to Bacolod?

Roughly 2.5 to 4 hours by private car for the about 170 km up the west coast, and about 4 to 5 hours by public bus or van because of the stops. If you are on Sugar Beach, add the boat off the beach to Barangay Nauhang before the road starts.

We are staying on Sugar Beach. Does the car come to the resort?

It cannot: there is no road to Sugar Beach. Every departure from that beach starts with a short boat, usually about 10 to 20 minutes, over to the Barangay Nauhang side, where the car waits. Your resort arranges that boat, so book it the night before and tell us roughly when it lands. From Punta Ballo or Sipalay town the car reaches you directly.

I am catching the boat to Iloilo. Can you take us straight to the port?

Yes. BREDCO port, where the Iloilo fast craft sail from, is in the middle of Bacolod beside the Reclamation Area, so name it with the quote request and the car goes straight there. If you are on the FastCat RORO instead, it leaves from Banago, north of the city, so tell us which boat you are on: the two piers are on opposite sides of Bacolod.

I am flying out the same day. Is this the right page?

No. Bacolod-Silay Airport is about 15 km north-east of the city near Silay, so the run is about 190 km and usually 3 to 4.5 hours, not the 170 km city figure. See the Sipalay to Bacolod-Silay airport page, which works the pickup time back from your flight.

How do we tell you how much dive gear is coming?

Yes. Put the sets of dive gear in the "Anything bulky?" box with your bag count and the car is sized to the load rather than the head count, which matters on a 2.5 to 4 hour run up the coast with no way to split it later. If you are on Sugar Beach the kit crosses by boat to the Nauhang landing before it reaches the car, so tell your resort the night before as well. If the next stop is BREDCO or Banago for a boat to Iloilo, say so too: the bags go straight from the car to the pier. Rented kit left at Punta Ballo means a smaller car, so tell us that instead.

Can we stop at Danjugan Island on the way north?

Danjugan is just up the coast near Cauayan, with the Bulata jump-off about 30 to 45 minutes from Sipalay, so it fits on this road. A visit there is a day in itself rather than a quick stop, so tell us your dates and we will quote the legs either side of it.

Can you do the return trip, Bacolod back to Sipalay (Sugar Beach)?

Yes. The same private car and driver, Bacolod back to Sipalay (Sugar Beach) over the same ~170 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.

How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?

Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.

Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?

Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.
