How do I get from Dumaguete to Bacolod?

Dumaguete and Bacolod sit at opposite ends of Negros, so crossing between them is a long haul. The usual land route runs inland through the mountain town of Mabinay and on via Kabankalan, roughly 195 to 215 km and about 6 hours by private car.
