Lake Balinsasayao in the Twin Lakes reserve, the destination of the day tour
Private day tour · Half to full day, roughly 5-8 hours

How do I do the Twin Lakes day tour from Dumaguete?

Two crater lakes in the rainforest, a kayak on still water, cool mountain air. Your car handles the climb.

Short answer

The Twin Lakes day tour takes you up into the Balinsasayao natural park above Sibulan, where two deep crater lakes sit ringed by rainforest. It is one of Negros Oriental’s calmest, greenest trips: a viewpoint over both lakes, a kayak or paddle boat on the still water, and cool forest air a world away from the coast.

The lakes are about 25 km from Dumaguete, but the steep, rough final road means the trip runs an hour to an hour and a half each way, so it works as a relaxed half or full day. We arrange the private vehicle and driver to handle the climb, with waiting time at the lake, as a fixed-price quote. The park entry and any kayak hire are paid at the gate and lake.

The day, stop by stop

  1. 1
Pickup and drive towards San Jose~1 hr

Your driver collects you in Dumaguete and heads north-west through Sibulan towards the Twin Lakes access road.

  2. 2
Climb to the Twin Lakes gate~30 min climb

The steep, rough final stretch is handled by a sturdy vehicle. Pay the park entry at the gate.

  3. 3
    Viewpoint and the lake1-2 hours

Walk to the viewpoint over both lakes, then hire a kayak or paddle boat on Lake Balinsasayao.

  4. 4
    Return, or add Valenciaafternoon

Head back down, with the option to pair Valencia or a Dumaguete lunch on the way if you have the time.

Private day tour vs doing it yourself

  • Private Twin Lakes day tour (ours)~5-8 hrs

A private vehicle and driver at a fixed all-in price, with the rough climb handled and waiting time at the lake. The simplest way up to a spot with no regular public transport.

  • DIY by bus + habal-haballonger, less comfortable

Bus to San Jose, then a habal-habal up the rough road. Cheapest, but slow and exposed on the climb, especially in the wet, and no one waits at the lake.

Twin Lakes day tour: FAQs

How long is the Twin Lakes day tour?

Roughly 5 to 8 hours depending on how long you linger at the lake and whether you add Valencia. The drive is an hour to an hour and a half each way because of the steep final road.

Do I need a special vehicle for the access road?

The final stretch is steep and rough, so we use a suitable car or sturdy van and an experienced driver to handle it comfortably. That is much of the reason a private tour is the easy way up.

Can I combine the Twin Lakes with Valencia?

Yes, both are in the uplands near Dumaguete and pair well into one day. Tell us your plan and we will quote a private vehicle with the waiting time built in.
