Can I go straight from Bacolod-Silay airport to Lakawon Island, and what time does my flight have to land?
Short answer
Bacolod-Silay Airport is already north of Bacolod, which puts it on the Cadiz side of the city rather than behind it. The Lakawon mainland ticketing office at Cadiz Viejo is roughly 35 to 45 km from the terminal, about 45 minutes to an hour by private car. Driving south into Bacolod to check in first and then back out north again is a leg you do not need: from the city the same office is 50 to 60 km and an hour to an hour and a half.
The road is not what decides the day though. The resort dispatches its day-tour boats from Cadiz at 7:00, 9:00 and 11:00 in the morning and publishes nothing after that, so the real question is not how far the island is from the terminal but whether your flight lands early enough to reach a boat. Plan the drive at the slow end of its range and the answer is a clock time rather than a rule: be in the car at arrivals by about 10:00 AM and the 11:00 crossing is yours, by about 8:00 for the 9:00 boat, by about 6:00 for the 7:00 one.
Land after about 10 in the morning and there is no crossing left that day, whatever the road is doing. That is not a reason to drop the island, it is a reason to sleep in Silay: the heritage town is 5 km and ten minutes from the terminal and sits roughly the same run north to Cadiz as the airport does, so the 7:00 boat the next morning buys you a whole day on the sand instead of a scramble for the last one. The FAQs below work both shapes through, along with the booking rule that catches people flying in, because same-day online booking is not permitted and a land-and-go day has to be booked before you fly.
Step by step: Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) to Lakawon Island
- 1Send us the flight number, not a pickup time
Give us the flight and which boat you want and we work the drive back from the departure rather than guessing at an hour. We will also say plainly if your arrival does not reach a boat, which is the most useful thing we can tell you about this trip.
- 2Meet your driver at arrivals
Bacolod-Silay is a single-terminal domestic airport, so it is a short walk from the hall to the car. Your driver meets you with a name board and the bags go straight in.
- 3North to Cadiz Viejo, not south into the city
Roughly 35 to 45 km up the coastal highway past Victorias and Manapla to the Lakawon mainland ticketing office at Cadiz Viejo, about 45 minutes to an hour. The city is the wrong way and costs you the margin you need for the boat.
- 4Register and pay at the mainland office
Day-tour payments, boat assignment and cottages are all handled at Cadiz Viejo before you board. Ask which departure you are on and which return boats are running while you are at the counter, not when you want to leave the island.
- 5Cross to the island
The resort boat takes about 15 to 20 minutes across the 4 to 5 km channel. TawHai floating bar access is currently advertised as free for guests, weather permitting, with a three-hour cap per visit.
- 6Your driver is waiting for the return boat
The same car waits through the day and runs you on to your Bacolod hotel, or back to Silay if you are staying up this end. Luggage stays in the vehicle the whole time.

Ways to travel, compared
- Airport to Cadiz Viejo transfer with waiting driver (what we arrange)~45 min-1 hr each way
A private air-conditioned car or van meeting your flight at BCD and running straight north to the Lakawon ticketing office, timed to the boat you have booked, with the driver waiting through your day on the island. Fixed all-in price for the car, request a quote. The island package and the crossing are paid to the resort.
- Resort boat, Cadiz Viejo to Lakawon~15-20 min
Not ours to sell or price: the crossing is booked and paid at the mainland ticketing office as part of the day-tour package. Published day-tour departures are 7:00, 9:00 and 11:00 AM, subject to a passenger minimum per direction and to the weather.
- Airport shuttle, then Ceres bus and tricycle (public)~2-3 hrs, plus waits
The cheap version goes the wrong way first: the airport shuttle runs south into Bacolod, then a northbound Ceres bus from the north terminal back past the airport to Cadiz, then a tricycle to the port. Three waits and a doubled leg stacked in front of a boat that leaves on a published time and will not hold for you.
Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) to Lakawon Island: FAQs
What time does my flight have to land to reach Lakawon the same day?
Work it back from the boat, not from the terminal. The resort publishes day-tour departures from Cadiz at 7:00, 9:00 and 11:00 in the morning, and the drive from BCD to the Cadiz Viejo ticketing office is roughly 35 to 45 km and 45 minutes to an hour. Planning the road at the slow end of that, you want to be in the car at arrivals by about 10:00 AM for the 11:00 boat, about 8:00 for the 9:00 boat and about 6:00 for the 7:00 one. We deliberately count from the car rather than from the wheels touching down, because how long you spend collecting bags is the one part of this nobody can publish honestly. Send us the flight number and we will tell you which boats it reaches.
My flight gets in at lunchtime. Is that the island gone?
Gone for that day, yes, and we would rather say so than drive you to a closed ticket office. The 11:00 AM departure is the last one the resort publishes, so an arrival after about 10 in the morning has no crossing behind it however fast the road is. The shape that works is a night in Silay, which is 5 km and ten minutes from the terminal and about the same run north to Cadiz as the airport itself, then the 7:00 boat the next morning. That turns a wasted afternoon into a full island day, and it puts the heritage houses and El Ideal Bakery in the gap. We quote the airport leg, the night-before position and the island run as one booking.
Is it really quicker from the airport than from Bacolod?
Yes, and it is the single most useful thing to know if you are flying in. Bacolod-Silay Airport is not in Bacolod: it sits north-east of the city near Silay, which means it is already part of the way to Cadiz. From the terminal the mainland office is roughly 35 to 45 km and 45 minutes to an hour. From Bacolod it is 50 to 60 km and an hour to an hour and a half. Checking into a city hotel first and driving back out the next morning costs you the better part of an hour each way on a day whose deadline is a boat.
Do I have to book the island before I fly?
For an online day trip, yes. The resort states that same-day online bookings are not permitted and asks for day-trip bookings at least one day before travel, so if you are landing in the morning and going straight up the coast, that booking has to be made before you get on the plane. Walk-in arrangements exist at the mainland office but depend on capacity, the weather and the boat passenger minimum, which is a lot to gamble on with a flight already behind you and an hour of road in front.
What do we do with our luggage?
It stays in the car. Your driver waits at Cadiz Viejo through the crossing and your day on the island, so you cross with a beach bag rather than a suitcase, and the rest goes on to your hotel with you afterwards. It is the same arrangement as any of our waiting-driver days, and it is why a private car works better here than a bus you would have to reload at every leg.
What happens if the boat does not run?
Crossings and the TawHai floating bar are both suspended when conditions require it, and the resort asks visitors to confirm the island is open before travelling rather than turning up to find out. Tell your driver as early as you can and we turn the day into something else on the same road at no extra charge: the Silay heritage houses are ten minutes from the terminal, The Ruins in Talisay and Mambukal are both south of it, and none of them depend on the sea.
Can we do Lakawon on the way out instead, before an afternoon flight?
We would not book it that way. Every published day-tour boat off the mainland leaves in the morning, and the return crossing is the one leg nobody on our side controls, so putting a check-in cut-off on the end of it turns a beach day into a countdown. If Lakawon matters to you and you are flying out of BCD, do the island the day before, sleep in Silay or Bacolod, and let us run the airport leg separately. That way the boat can be late and it costs you nothing.
How long do we actually get on the island?
That depends on which boat you catch out and which one you take back, and the return board is confirmed at the mainland office when you check in rather than published in advance, so we will not print times we do not hold. What we can tell you is the shape: the 7:00 and 9:00 departures are the ones that give you a real day, the 11:00 is an afternoon, and TawHai visits are capped at three hours each. Ask at the counter which returns are running before you get on the water, and tell your driver the one you have chosen.
Can you do the return trip, Lakawon Island back to Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD)?
Yes. Your boat brings you back to the mainland jump-off, where your driver is waiting to run you on to Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) over the same ~35-45 km. The boat is arranged and paid there, the same as on the way out; send us your flight time with the quote request and we work the pickup back from it. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.
How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?
Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.
Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?
Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.
Do you book the boat, or do I?
You book the boat, and for Lakawon that has to happen before the day you travel. The resort does not permit same-day online bookings and asks for day-trip bookings at least one day ahead. Walk-in arrangements do exist at the mainland ticketing office in Cadiz Viejo, but they are subject to capacity, weather and the boat passenger minimum, which is a lot to leave to chance after an hour in the car. What we quote is the private road leg to the ticketing office and back, timed to the departure you are booked on - the last day-tour boat leaves at 11:00 AM, so the morning is tighter than it looks. Tell us the boat you are aiming for in the "Ferry or boat" box and we will work the pickup back from it.
Lakawon Island → Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD)
Your boat brings you back to the mainland jump-off, where your driver is waiting to run you on to Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD), the road leg in reverse, with the banca arranged and paid there as on the way out. Tell us your flight time and we work the pickup back from it, so the two connect with room to spare.
We'll pre-fill Lakawon Island → Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) on the form. Just add your dates and details.
Coming back to somewhere else - a different town, the airport, a pier for an onward boat? Say where in the Anything else? box on the form and we price the return to that instead of back to the start.
Starting somewhere else?
We also run to Lakawon Island from these starting points. Each page has its own timing and a quote form already filled in for that pickup.
