Short answer

Dauin is the dive coast just south of Dumaguete, and most people reaching it from Cebu are divers carrying kit. The trip is a long drive down the length of Cebu, a short boat across the end of it, and a run down the Negros coast past Dumaguete. From Cebu City it is about 136 km to Liloan port at Santander, on Cebu’s southern tip - roughly two hours of free-flow road and realistically three to four with Cebu City traffic. The fast craft then crosses the Tañon Strait, only about 6.5 km wide there, to Sibulan in 20 to 30 minutes. From Sibulan pier it is about 22 km on to Dauin: 7 km into Dumaguete and about 15 km more down the shore road past Bacong, usually 35 to 45 minutes.

The crossing is the short part and the spacing is what needs planning: the RORO timetable we hold runs nine sailings each way from 4:30 AM to 10:30 PM, but three hours apart through the daytime, so pick your boat before you plan the Cebu road behind it. Negros.travel handles the Negros side - a private car meets your sailing at Sibulan pier gate with room for dive bags and takes you straight to your resort, instead of a bus into the Dumaguete terminal, a second bus south and a tricycle down the beach lane. For the Cebu road leg down to Liloan, our sister site cebu.travel arranges the transfer.

All Saints’ Day, Sunday 1 November 2026: three sailings each way

Maayo Shipping runs a reduced holiday timetable on both of its Cebu crossings on 1 November, and the times differ by direction. The normal timetable resumes on Monday 2 November. Expect holiday crowds at the pier.

Step by step: Cebu to Dauin

  1. 1
Travel down Cebu to Liloan port

About 136 km from Cebu City to Liloan port at Santander, Cebu’s southern tip, down the east coast road through Oslob. Allow three to four hours rather than the two the distance suggests. The Cebu road leg is arranged on the Cebu side (see the cross-links).

  2. 2
Cross to Sibulan on the fast craft

Maayo Shipping sails Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan nine times a day in each direction, first 4:30 AM and last 10:30 PM, a 20 to 30 minute crossing. They are three hours apart through the middle of the day, so a missed daytime boat is a three-hour wait rather than a short one - send us the sailing you hold. The ticket is a public fare paid at the port; see the ferry guide for the full timetable.

  3. 3
Meet your Dauin driver at Sibulan pier

We meet you at Sibulan pier - the pier, not the airport a few minutes down the road - timed to your sailing, with your name at the arrivals gate and the dive bags straight in the back.

  4. 4
Down the coast to your resort gate

South through Dumaguete, about 7 km, which is the slow section at the end of the working day, then on about 15 km past Bacong to Dauin. You are dropped at the resort gate itself, not the highway junction.

Ways to travel, compared

  • Dumaguete-side transfer to Dauin (what we arrange)~35-45 min from Sibulan

We meet you at Sibulan pier timed to your sailing and drive you straight to your Dauin resort in a private car with space for dive kit. One fixed price agreed before you travel, request a quote. The Cebu road leg to Liloan is arranged separately on the Cebu side.

  • Fast craft, Liloan (Cebu) → Sibulan~20-30 min

The short sea crossing from Cebu’s southern tip to Sibulan next to Dumaguete. Nine sailings a day each way, 4:30 AM to 10:30 PM but three hours apart in the daytime; fixed public fare paid at the port. See our ferry timetable guide for verified current times.

  • Through bus to Dumaguete, then south (public)~6-7 hrs

Ceres runs direct Cebu City to Dumaguete services and the bus rolls onto the RORO for the crossing, so you stay in your seat. It drops you at the Dumaguete terminal, where you change to a southbound bus for Dauin and a tricycle to your resort. Cheapest, but a long day and two changes with dive bags at the end of it.

Cebu to Dauin: FAQs

How long does Cebu to Dauin take door to door?

Reckon on five to six hours from Cebu City, and almost all of it is the drive down Cebu. The sea crossing is only 20 to 30 minutes and the Sibulan-to-Dauin run is 35 to 45; the rest is the 136 km down to Liloan port, which is three to four hours with Cebu City traffic. The single thing that most changes the total is the boat: the daytime sailings are three hours apart, so a missed one adds a three-hour wait to the day.

How long is the ferry from Cebu to Dauin?

The fast-craft crossing from Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan is about 20 to 30 minutes, with nine sailings a day each way between 4:30 AM and 10:30 PM. The crossing is the short part; the spacing is what needs planning, because the daytime boats are three hours apart - 4:30 AM, 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00 NN, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM - and only the last three run 90 minutes apart. Times change with weather and season and this crossing has been re-timed repeatedly through 2026, so confirm the current schedule and arrive at the port in good time. Slower overnight ferries also run direct from Cebu City port.

Can you take us straight to our dive resort instead of Dumaguete?

Yes, and it is one continuous run rather than a detour. Dauin is about 22 km from Sibulan pier, some 15 km beyond Dumaguete on the same coast road, so allow around 45 minutes from the boat. Send us the resort name at quote stage - the dive resorts are strung down unmarked beach lanes and the gate matters more than the town - and we drop you there directly, instead of you paying for a car into Dumaguete and a second one back out.

Is Sibulan port the same place as Dumaguete airport?

No. Both are in Sibulan and only a few minutes apart, which catches people out. The pier is where the Liloan boats from Cebu land; Dumaguete-Sibulan (DGT) airport is the separate air terminal. Tell us which one you are arriving at. If you are flying in rather than crossing by boat, the airport-to-Dauin page covers that run.

We are coming down Cebu’s west coast from Moalboal - should we still land at Sibulan for Dauin?

Bato to Tampi is the natural crossing from the west coast and most people take it, but for Dauin it is worth a thought. The two Cebu piers are only about a 10-minute tricycle ride apart round the southern tip, so landing at Sibulan is not the backtrack it looks on a map. Sibulan is about 22 km from the dive coast; Tampi is about 30 km from Dauin, since the road runs through Dumaguete first. Take whichever pier’s next sailing suits you - we meet either and drive on to your resort gate.

Do the Dauin sanctuaries charge a fee on top of the diving?

Yes, on top of your dive package and separate from the ferry ticket and the car. The Dauin sanctuaries are protected areas with a municipal user fee for diving or snorkelling, charged per dive rather than once for your stay, and it is usually not inside the price your dive shop quotes: it is settled in cash at the dive centre. Snorkellers are liable on the same basis, with a staffed collection hut on the shore at Masaplod Norte, though collection is patchier than for divers. Ask your resort for the current per-dive figure, since the rates vary between the sanctuaries and the amounts published do not agree.

Can you arrange the whole trip from Cebu?

We handle the Negros side, meeting you at Sibulan and driving you to your Dauin resort. The Cebu road leg down to Liloan port is arranged by our sister site cebu.travel, so between the two sites the whole door-to-door trip is covered.

Can you do the return trip, Dauin back to Cebu?

Yes. The same private car and driver, Dauin back to Cebu over the same ~136 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.

How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?

Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.

Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?

Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.

Do you book the boat, or do I?

You book the crossing, and the Cebu boats are settled at the port on the day - they are public passenger fares you buy from the operator, and we neither sell them nor mark them up. What we quote is the private road leg each side of the water, plus the waiting and the timing. This is the crossing where naming your boat matters most: four of the daytime gaps on the Liloan-Sibulan run are three hours each, so which sailing you aim at moves your pickup by hours rather than minutes. Put it in the "Ferry or boat" box - "not booked yet" is a fine answer - and we will work the drive around it.
