Short answer

Dauin is a strip of dive resorts on the Negros coast about 18 km south of Dumaguete, and from Mactan-Cebu airport there are two genuinely different ways to reach it. The first is to fly the short hop to Dumaguete-Sibulan and drive 30 to 40 minutes down the coast. The second is the overland answer: the length of Cebu’s east coast to Liloan port at Santander, roughly 165 km and 4 to 5 hours, the fast craft across to Sibulan, then the Negros coast road south through Bacong to Dauin. Both end at the same resort gate, and they are not close to each other in length.

Settle it by looking up the flight for your date first, because it is the leg that might not exist. Cebgo flies Mactan-Cebu to Dumaguete-Sibulan non-stop, and we will not print a frequency for it: the sources disagree badly enough that a number from us would be a guess with a confident face, and the route is thin, so the date decides. If there is a flight on your day, the whole southern drive is work you do not have to do and you land about 18 km from the resort. If there is not, the road and the fast craft run every day and that is the answer.

Negros.travel handles the Negros side either way: a private car meets you at Dumaguete-Sibulan airport if you fly, or at Sibulan pier timed to your sailing if you cross by ferry, with room for dive kit, and takes you straight to the resort gate past Bacong. For the Cebu side - your arrivals gate across to Terminal 1 for the Dumaguete flight, or the full coastal run down to Liloan port - our sister site cebu.travel arranges the transfer. Flight and ferry tickets are yours to book and sit outside our quote.

Step by step: Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB) to Dauin

  1. 1
Fly or drive the Cebu side (arranged by cebu.travel)

If the Cebgo flight runs on your date, it is a short hop from Mactan-Cebu to Dumaguete-Sibulan and the long drive below is work you skip. If not, it is about 165 km and 4 to 5 hours down Cebu’s east coast to Liloan port at Santander, through Carcar, Argao and Oslob. Either leg is arranged on the Cebu side by cebu.travel (see the cross-links); pick the flight or the sailing first and the pickup is counted back from it.

  2. 2
Cross to Sibulan on the fast craft (overland route only)

Maayo Shipping sails Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan nine times a day in each direction, first 4:30 AM and last 10:30 PM, a 20 to 30 minute crossing. They are three hours apart through the middle of the day, so a missed daytime boat is a three-hour wait rather than a short one - send us the sailing you hold. The ticket is a public fare paid at the port; see the ferry guide for the full timetable.

  3. 3
Meet your Dauin driver on the Negros side

We meet you at Dumaguete-Sibulan airport if you flew, or at Sibulan pier - the pier, not the airport a few minutes down the road - timed to your sailing if you crossed by boat. Your name is at the arrivals gate and the dive bags go straight in the back.

  4. 4
Down the coast to your resort gate

South through Dumaguete and on past Bacong to Dauin: about 18 km and 30 to 40 minutes from the airport, or about 22 km and 35 to 45 minutes from Sibulan pier. You are dropped at the resort gate itself, not the highway junction.

Ways to travel, compared

  • Dumaguete-side transfer to Dauin (what we arrange)~30-40 min from the airport, ~35-45 min from the pier

We meet you at Dumaguete-Sibulan airport or at Sibulan pier - timed to your flight or sailing - and drive you straight to your Dauin resort in a private car with space for dive kit. One fixed price agreed before you travel, request a quote. The Cebu side is arranged separately by cebu.travel.

  • Cebgo, Mactan-Cebu → Dumaguete-Sibulan~45-55 min

A short non-stop hop that, when it runs on your date, skips the whole southern drive and lands you about 18 km from the Dauin resorts. The route is thin and we do not print a frequency for it - look up the flight for your exact day. Your ticket is booked separately and sits outside our quote.

  • Fast craft, Liloan (Cebu) → Sibulan~20-30 min

The short sea crossing from Cebu’s southern tip to Sibulan next to Dumaguete, after the 4 to 5 hour drive south. Nine sailings a day each way, 4:30 AM to 10:30 PM but three hours apart in the daytime; fixed public fare paid at the port. See our ferry timetable guide for verified current times.

  • DIY by Ceres bus + ferry, then south (public)~7-8 hrs

Ceres runs direct Cebu City to Dumaguete services and the bus rolls onto the RORO for the crossing, so you stay in your seat, then you change at the Dumaguete terminal for a southbound bus to Dauin and a tricycle to your resort. Cheapest by a long way, and the hardest version to do with dive gear straight off a flight.

Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB) to Dauin: FAQs

Should I fly to Dumaguete or drive down Cebu and take the ferry?

Look up the Cebgo flight for your exact date first, because it is the leg that might not run. If there is a flight, take it: a short hop to Dumaguete-Sibulan lands you about 18 km from the Dauin resorts and skips the whole 165 km drive down Cebu. The route is thin and schedules shift, so we will not print a frequency - check your own day. If there is no flight, the overland way runs every day: about 4 to 5 hours down Cebu to Liloan port, a 20 to 30 minute fast craft to Sibulan, then 35 to 45 minutes down the coast to Dauin.

How long is the ferry from Cebu to Dauin?

The fast-craft crossing from Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan is about 20 to 30 minutes, with nine sailings a day each way between 4:30 AM and 10:30 PM. The crossing is the short part; the spacing is what needs planning, because the daytime boats are three hours apart - 4:30 AM, 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00 NN, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM - and only the last three run 90 minutes apart. Times change with weather and season and this crossing has been re-timed repeatedly through 2026, so confirm the current schedule and arrive at the port in good time. Slower overnight ferries also run direct from Cebu City port.

Why have this page when you already have a Mactan to Dumaguete route?

Because Dauin is not Dumaguete, and the difference is the part that gets improvised. The Mactan-to-Dumaguete page takes you to the city and stops there; the dive resorts are another 18 km south down the coast road past Bacong, down beach lanes that mostly have no sign on the highway. Travellers who booked the Dumaguete transfer and meant Dauin end up arranging the last half hour at the pier with their kit on the floor. Book it as one journey to the resort gate and that handover is already fixed before you land.

Can you take us straight to our dive resort instead of Dumaguete?

Yes, and it is one continuous run rather than a detour. Dauin is about 18 km from Dumaguete-Sibulan airport and about 22 km from Sibulan pier, on the same coast road past Bacong, so allow 30 to 45 minutes on the Negros side. Send us the resort name at quote stage - the dive resorts are strung down unmarked beach lanes and the gate matters more than the town - and we drop you there directly, instead of you paying for a car into Dumaguete and a second one back out.

We are travelling with dive gear. Does that change the vehicle?

It changes which vehicle we send, and it is worth telling us rather than letting us guess. Two divers with rolling kit bags, regs and a camera rig fill a sedan boot before the suitcases go in, and a group of four with gear is a van job even though four people would otherwise fit a car. Say how many bags and whether any are the long heavy kind in the quote request, and we size it to the load rather than to the headcount.

Do the Dauin sanctuaries charge a fee on top of the diving?

Yes, on top of your dive package and separate from the ferry ticket and the car. The Dauin sanctuaries are protected areas with a municipal user fee for diving or snorkelling, charged per dive rather than once for your stay, and it is usually not inside the price your dive shop quotes: it is settled in cash at the dive centre. Snorkellers are liable on the same basis, with a staffed collection hut on the shore at Masaplod Norte, though collection is patchier than for divers. Ask your resort for the current per-dive figure, since the rates vary between the sanctuaries and the amounts published do not agree.

Can you arrange the whole trip from Cebu?

Yes, as one booking across two sites. Cebu.travel drives the Cebu half - arrivals to Terminal 1 for the flight, or arrivals to Liloan port timed to a sailing - and we drive the Negros half from Dumaguete-Sibulan airport or Sibulan pier to your resort gate. The reason to book it together is the join: the Negros-side car is held against your actual flight or sailing, so a late landing or a missed boat moves the pickup instead of stranding you.

Can you do the return trip, Dauin back to Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB)?

Yes. For the way back we meet your ferry at the pier and drive you on to Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB), the same road leg in reverse. You book the crossing itself, as on the way out; tell us your ferry and your flight time in the quote request and we set the pickup so the two connect with room to spare. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.

How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?

Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.

Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?

Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.

Travelling the other way?

Dauin → Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB)

We meet your ferry at the pier and drive you on to Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB), the same road leg in reverse, with the crossing your own booking as on the way out. Tell us your ferry and your flight time and we set the pickup so the two connect with room to spare.

We'll pre-fill Dauin → Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB) on the form. Just add your dates and details.

Coming back to somewhere else - a different town, the airport, a pier for an onward boat? Say where in the Anything else? box on the form and we price the return to that instead of back to the start.

Starting somewhere else?

We also run to Dauin from these starting points. Each page has its own timing and a quote form already filled in for that pickup.
