Short answer
Dauin is about 22 km south of Sibulan Port, usually 35 to 45 minutes by car. You come off the Liloan crossing, run 7 km down the coastal highway through Dumaguete, then about 15 km on along the shore road past Bacong to the dive coast. There is no need to stop in the city: the car goes pier to resort gate in one run.
This is the leg most divers coming over from Cebu actually need. Liloan to Sibulan is the crossing to take if you are travelling down Cebu’s east coast through Oslob, and it drops you on the Dumaguete side of the island with Dauin just past the city. A private car meets your sailing at the pier gate with room for dive bags, instead of a bus into the Dumaguete terminal, a second bus south and a tricycle down the beach lane.
Step by step: Sibulan Port (Liloan fast craft) to Dauin
- 1Cross from Liloan to Sibulan
Maayo Shipping sails Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan nine times a day in each direction, first 4:30 AM and last 10:30 PM, a 20 to 30 minute crossing. The ticket is a public fare paid at the port; see the ferry guide for the full timetable.
- 2Meet your driver at the pier
Tell us your sailing and we track it. Your driver is outside the arrivals gate with your name, and the dive bags go straight in the back.
- 3Through Dumaguete without stopping
South on the coastal highway, about 7 km into Dumaguete. This is the slow section, especially at the end of the working day.
- 4Down the coast to your resort gate
Out through Bacong and on along the shore to Dauin, about 15 km more, and dropped at the resort itself rather than the highway junction.

Ways to travel, compared
- Private transfer from Sibulan Port (what we arrange)~35-45 min
Met at the pier, timed to your sailing, and driven straight to your Dauin resort with space for dive kit. One fixed price for the car agreed before you travel, request a quote.
- Ceres bus + Ceres bus + tricycle (public)~1-1.5 hrs
A southbound bus from Sibulan into the Dumaguete terminal, a second southbound bus that drops you on the highway at Dauin, then a tricycle to your resort. Cheapest, but three legs and two changes with luggage.
- Tricycle direct (local)~1 hr
Some tricycles at the pier gate will run the whole way south. Workable solo with a light bag, slow and cramped with dive gear or a suitcase, and the fare is negotiated on the spot.
Sibulan Port (Liloan fast craft) to Dauin: FAQs
How far is Dauin from Sibulan port?
About 22 km: roughly 7 km south from the pier into Dumaguete, then about 15 km on down the coast road past Bacong. By private car that is usually 35 to 45 minutes, with traffic through Dumaguete city the variable part.
Do I have to go into Dumaguete first?
Not as a stop. The road from the pier to Dauin runs through Dumaguete, so you pass through the city, but a private car goes straight from the pier gate to your resort in one run. Only the bus route makes you change at the Dumaguete terminal.
Is Sibulan port the same place as Dumaguete airport?
No. Both are in Sibulan and only a few minutes apart, which catches people out. The pier is where the Liloan boats from Cebu land; Dumaguete-Sibulan (DGT) airport is the separate air terminal. Tell us which one you are arriving at. If you are flying in, the airport to Dauin page covers that run.
Can you meet the last boat of the day?
Yes. The last Liloan to Sibulan sailing is 10:30 PM. Send us the sailing you are booked on, the driver tracks it and waits if it runs late, and it is worth telling your resort you will check in late.
I am coming down Cebu’s west coast from Moalboal. Should I still land at Sibulan?
Usually not. From Moalboal or Badian, reaching Liloan means backtracking, so most people cross Bato to Tampi instead, which lands a little further north on the same coast. We meet either sailing and drive on to Dauin; the Tampi page and the ferry guide compare the two crossings.
Can the same driver take us to Apo Island later in the stay?
Yes. Apo Island is a barangay of Dauin, reached by your resort boat or by the public bancas at Malatapay, about 15 km further south. Ask for the pier transfer and the Apo Island day in one quote and we price them together.
Can you do the return trip, Dauin back to Sibulan Port (Liloan fast craft)?
Yes. The same private car and driver, Dauin back to Sibulan Port (Liloan fast craft) over the same ~22 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together.
