The Ruins in Talisay near Bacolod lit at dusk, the centrepiece of the Bacolod heritage day tour
Private day tour · Half to full day, roughly 5-8 hours

How do I do The Ruins and Silay heritage day tour from Bacolod?

The Ruins at Talisay, the ancestral houses of Silay and inasal in between, the two heritage clusters either side of Bacolod.

Short answer

This is the classic Negros Occidental day: the skeletal Italianate mansion at The Ruins in Talisay, the ancestral sugar-baron houses of Silay, and chicken inasal in Bacolod itself. The two heritage stops sit in opposite directions but both close to the city. Talisay is about 8 to 13 km south, a 15 to 20 minute drive, and Silay about 15 km north, a similar 15 to 20 minutes, so linking them makes a comfortable, unhurried day rather than a rushed one.

Silay also sits right beside Bacolod-Silay airport, about 5 km and 10 minutes from the terminal, so this tour works just as well either side of a flight as it does from a city hotel. We arrange the private car and driver with waiting time at each stop, as a fixed-price quote. Entrance fees at The Ruins and the Silay heritage houses are paid locally, so those sit outside our quote.

The day, stop by stop

  1. 1
Pickup in Bacolod (or at the airport)flexible

Your driver collects you from your hotel in the city, or meets your flight at Bacolod-Silay with a name board if you would rather start the day straight off the plane.

  2. 2
    The Ruins, Talisay1-2 hours

A 15 to 20 minute drive south of the city to the skeletal mansion and its gardens. Late afternoon is the best light, with the lights coming on at dusk. Your driver waits at the gate.

  3. 3
    Chicken inasal in Bacolod1 hour

Back through the city for the grilled chicken Bacolod is famous for (Manokan Country is the classic stop), or the Capitol lagoon for a short walk between the two heritage clusters.

  4. 4
    Silay heritage houses1-2 hours

North to Silay, a 15 to 20 minute drive, for the ancestral houses and old sugar wealth of the heritage district. An easy walkable cluster with the driver waiting nearby.

  5. 5
Back to your hotel, or on to your flightoptional

Finish in the city, or carry on the 5 km from Silay to Bacolod-Silay airport if the tour is doubling as your departure transfer.

Private day tour vs doing it yourself

  • Private Bacolod heritage day tour (ours)~5-8 hrs

A private car and driver at a fixed all-in price, with waiting time at each stop and the order shaped around you, including timing The Ruins for dusk. The only practical way to link Talisay, the city and Silay in one day.

  • DIY by taxi + jeepneylonger, piecemeal

Taxis and jeepneys cover Bacolod and the road out to Talisay reasonably well, but there is no easy public route on to Silay in the same trip, and Grab has only limited coverage in Negros.

Bacolod heritage day tour: FAQs

Can I add Mambukal to the same day?

You can, but it turns a relaxed day into a full, early one. Mambukal is a separate cluster in a different direction, east into the hills of Murcia, 45 minutes to an hour from the city, so it is a third, longer drive on top of the first two. Most visitors give Mambukal its own half day. Our Bacolod itinerary guide walks through both plans.

Can this tour double as an airport transfer?

Yes, and it is one of the easiest combinations. Silay sits about 5 km from Bacolod-Silay airport and Talisay is a short drive beyond the city, so we can run the loop on the way in from your arrival or on the way out to your departure. Tell us your flight time and we will quote a car that takes in both.

What time should we start?

If you want The Ruins at its best, work backwards from dusk, since the mansion is lit in the evening. A common shape is Silay and lunch first, then Talisay in the late afternoon. If your day is fixed by a flight, we build the order around that instead.

What is included in the price?

The quote covers the private car and driver for the day, with waiting time at each stop. Entrance fees at The Ruins and the Silay heritage houses, any local guide, and meals are paid locally and sit outside the quote.
