How do I get from Silay to Bacolod-Silay airport, and can I see the heritage houses on the day I fly out?
Short answer
This is the shortest airport run on Negros. Bacolod-Silay Airport is in Silay, not Bacolod: about 5 km and ten minutes from the heritage streets. Check-in closes 45 minutes before a domestic departure at both carriers serving BCD and Cebu Pacific asks passengers to be at the airport two hours ahead, so add the ten minutes of road and the answer is a clock time, not an adjective - back in the car on Rizal Street about two and a quarter hours before departure. A 1pm flight means leaving the old town around 10:45, a 3pm flight around 12:45, a 5pm flight around 2:45.
Here is the part that catches people out, and it is the opposite of every other departure on this site. Being ten minutes from the terminal does not buy you an early morning, because the constraint is not the road, it is a door that opens at nine. The Pink House is open 9am to 5pm, and ninety minutes to two hours covers the walkable core - the house, the San Diego Pro-Cathedral, the ancestral streets and El Ideal Bakery. Work that forward and the earliest flight a heritage morning actually fits behind is about 1 in the afternoon, with the relaxed version, lunch included, behind a mid-afternoon one. Fly before that and Silay is facades, the plaza and the outside of the Pro-Cathedral, which is a genuinely good hour but it is not the museum.
Two things to settle before the day itself. The houses are spread over several blocks with nowhere to leave luggage, so on a departure day, with the hotel already behind you, a car and a waiting driver is not the comfortable option, it is the only shape that works. And the Hofilena house is visited by prior arrangement rather than walked into, so if you want it on your last morning it is arranged before you travel, not decided over breakfast. Tell us the flight number and we work the pickup back from the counter.
Step by step: Silay to Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD)
- 1Send us the flight and the date
Give us the flight number, the departure time and the date. We work the pickup back from the counter closing, and we will tell you straight if the date is a Monday and what that changes.
- 2On the heritage streets from nine
The Jalandoni "Pink House" on Rizal Street opens at 9am, Tuesday to Sunday and holidays. Entry is paid at the door and sits outside the car quote. Ninety minutes to two hours covers the house, the San Diego Pro-Cathedral, the ancestral streets and El Ideal Bakery.
- 3The car waits with the bags
Your driver parks and waits while you walk. The houses are a few blocks apart and there is nowhere to leave luggage between them, which is the whole reason this works on a flight day at all.
- 4Ten minutes to departures
From the old town back out to the terminal is about 5 km, roughly ten minutes. It is the one airport run on the island where traffic is not the variable.
- 5Dropped at the terminal
BCD is a single-terminal domestic airport, so it is a short walk from the car to the check-in counter.

Ways to travel, compared
- Silay to BCD transfer with a waiting driver (what we arrange)~10 min + your time in town
A private air-conditioned car for the morning: collected where you are staying, the driver waiting with the luggage while you walk the heritage streets, then the ten minutes out to departures. One fixed all-in price for the car, request a quote.
- Tricycle to the highway, then a shuttle (public)~30-45 min
A tricycle out of the old town to the highway, then a shuttle or jeepney to the terminal turn-off. Very cheap, and fine without bags. On a flight day it means carrying your luggage between the houses and connecting twice against a check-in cut-off.
Silay to Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD): FAQs
What time do I need to leave Silay for my flight?
About two and a quarter hours before departure, counted from the car on Rizal Street rather than from the moment you stop walking. That is the two hours Cebu Pacific asks for at the airport plus the ten minutes of road, and it sits comfortably ahead of the 45-minute check-in cut-off both carriers serving BCD apply. So a 1pm flight means leaving the heritage streets around 10:45, a 3pm flight around 12:45 and a 5pm flight around 2:45. Send us the flight number and we set the time.
Can I see the heritage houses on the morning I fly out?
Yes, if your flight is from about 1 in the afternoon. The Pink House opens at 9am and the walkable core takes ninety minutes to two hours, so a lunchtime departure gives you the whole thing and a mid-afternoon one gives you the same plus lunch at El Ideal. Earlier than that and the arithmetic runs out before the door opens: an 11am flight has you leaving town at about 8:45, so you would be walking the streets and the plaza with the museum still shut. We would rather tell you that than sell you a morning that does not exist.
My flight out is on a Monday. Does that change anything?
It changes everything about the stop, and no amount of leaving earlier fixes it. The Pink House is closed Mondays, Balay Negrense has been closed for conservation since 2023, and the Hofilena house is by prior arrangement, so on a Monday there is no Silay house to go inside whatever time you fly. The ancestral streets, the San Diego Pro-Cathedral and El Ideal are still there and still worth an hour with a waiting car. If the houses are the reason you wanted the stop, the better answer is doing Silay on your arrival day instead, and we can build it into that transfer the same way.
We are staying in Bacolod. Does stopping in Silay on the way to the airport cost us a detour?
Barely. The terminal sits between the two: about 15 km north of Bacolod to the heritage streets, with the airport roughly 5 km short of them. So going hotel, Silay, airport instead of hotel, airport adds about 5 km and ten minutes of driving, plus however long you spend in the old town. That is the reason this stop is worth doing on a departure day and not worth a separate day out of the city.
Are the museum entry fees included, and can we get into the other houses?
No, entry is paid at the door and is outside our quote, which covers the private car and driver. In practice the one you can simply walk into is the 1908 Bernardino Jalandoni "Pink House", Tuesday to Sunday and holidays, 9am to 5pm. Balay Negrense, the first museum in Negros Occidental, has been closed since 2023 for a five-year conservation programme with no announced reopening date, so do not plan the morning around it. The 1934 Hofilena house is still a family home and is arranged ahead rather than walked into, which on a flight day means arranging it before you travel.
Can you do the return trip, Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) back to Silay?
Yes. The same private car and driver, Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) back to Silay over the same ~5 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together. If the way back ends somewhere other than where you started, say where in the Anything else? box on the quote form and we quote that leg instead of the reverse of this one.
How much notice do you need - can I still book this for tomorrow?
Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. An early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.
Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?
Nothing to ask for a quote. Once you are happy with the price it is two steps, not a choice between two: a booking fee paid online (card, bank transfer or GCash) confirms the trip and is what gets you your written confirmation, then the balance goes directly to your driver at the end of the journey. The fee is part of the all-in figure you agreed rather than an extra on top of it, and your quote states it before you pay. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup refunds the fee in full.
